I had the opportunity to try the Haven Dress Pattern by Petitekids recently. It is an adorable dress, full of cute styling that comes together quickly. I put this together with some time during an afternoon and an evening, I'm guessing future ones will go very rapidly. There are no pattern pieces to cut out, so once the pieces are cut, it's a fairly quick sew. I stuck with the fabric patterning as was shown with the pattern (straps to match the top ruffle), but this could easily be adapted and customized for multiple fabrics. We're anxiously waiting for spring to arrive in Michigan; this is definitely a great summer sundress, but I'm guessing she's going to be happy wearing it with a shirt under it til we see warmer temps.
The pattern goes from 6m-12yr, so it's a great size range.
There were lots of pleases and eyebatting after I showed her the dress...so I winged it and made a matching doll dress. Not included in the pattern, but not too difficult to size down from the infant dimensions.
Jane wanted a cherry party for her 8th birthday. I found some darling white cherry fabric at JoAnns...unfortunately when i got it home, it was a tich thin. I wanted to use the Hannah dress again, as I love the collar and it feels a little 50s retro to me, especially with the cherries. I had to figure out how to line it...I winged it, and it came out great. I found some darling polkadot buttons in my stash, and tried out some mini-pop trim for the arms and hemline. Super sweetness! I didn't think I could figure out sizing it down for a doll dress, so I just used the Oliver+S popover, and made it much fuller. She was ecstatic to have an almost matching dress.
I'm a SAHM with two beautiful little girls, an awesome husband, two cats, and a house we're slowing making into our dream home.
I love to play with photos and save our memories, and I am fascinated with cutting pieces of fabric and creating something useful and beautiful. Handmade makes me happy.
